It is very important to install thermoelectric cooler in the cooler system. If certain basic rules are not followed during installation, the result will be unsatisfactory performance and reliability. Some factors that need to be considered in the process of system design and cooler installation mainly include:
The thermoelectric cooler has high mechanical strength under pressure, but its shear strength is relatively low. Therefore, the thermoelectric cooler cannot be designed in the mechanical structure system that plays the main supporting role.
All interfaces in the system must be parallel to each other, and the interfaces need to be flat and clean to reduce the thermal resistance. Some materials with high thermal conductivity are generally used at the interface to ensure good contact between surfaces.
The hot end and cold end of a standard thermoelectric cooler can be distinguished by the position of the conductor. The conductor is generally welded on the hot end surface of the thermoelectric cooler, and the hot end surface is in contact with the radiator. For thermoelectric refrigerators using insulated wires, the red and black wires are connected to the positive and negative poles of the DC power supply respectively. Heat flow from the cold end of the cooler enters the radiator through the whole cooler. For a thermoelectric cooler with bare wires, if the lead is placed facing the observer and the base connected with the lead is downward, the positive pole is connected to the right side of the cooler and the negative pole is connected to the left side.
When the temperature drops below the ambient temperature, the cooled object should be insulated from the air as far as possible to reduce heat loss. In addition, in order to reduce the convection loss, the fan should not be installed, but the air should be blown directly to the cooled object. At the same time, try to avoid direct contact between the cooled object and the external structural unit, which can also reduce the convection loss.
When the temperature drops below the dew point, dew or frost will easily form on the cooled surface. If moisture enters the thermoelectric cooler, its refrigeration performance will be greatly reduced. In order to avoid this situation, effective moisture-proof sealing protection should be installed. This moisture-proof protective layer should wrap the thermoelectric cooler and be installed between the radiator and the cooled object. Elastic plastic insulating tape, sheet material or RTV silica gel can be used as moisture-proof protective layer. Its installation process is very simple and its sealing performance is good. There are many ways to install the thermoelectric cooler, but under certain conditions, a specific installation method must be used. In the following chapters, we list several possible installation technologies.
