Introduction to thermoelectric materials: With the acceleration of global industrialization, the shortage and depletion of world energy has become a problem that cannot be ignored in every country, which seriously restricts the long-term stable development of society. Research and development of new energy has become the trend of global energy development.
There are a lot of waste heat energy generated by energy consumption in life, such as: automobile exhaust, gas emitted from factory boilers, and so on. If we can make good use of these heat energy, it can become the energy for reuse; Electric energy is the most widely used form of energy, but at present the main form of power generation is fossil energy. The use of these energy has brought us convenience, but also brought environmental problems of global concern; Modern refrigeration technology has brought many conveniences to people's life, but the environmental problems caused by Freon refrigerant cannot be ignored. Thermoelectric materials have become a kind of functional materials with great development prospects because of their unique properties. Its applications include thermoelectric power generation and thermoelectric refrigeration.
What is thermoelectric material? Thermoelectric material is a kind of functional material that uses the movement of carriers inside the solid to realize the direct conversion between thermal energy and electrical energy. People's understanding of thermoelectric materials has a long history. In 1823, Seebeck, a German, discovered that the temperature difference between the two ends of the material can produce voltage, which is commonly known as thermoelectric phenomenon. In 1834, Peltier, a French watchmaker, published his paper on the abnormal temperature difference near the boundary of two different conductors (when there is current flowing) in the French Annals of Physics and Chemistry. These two phenomena indicate that heat can generate electricity, while electricity can also be transformed into heat or used for refrigeration. These two phenomena are named as Seebeck effect and Peltier effect respectively. They provide a theoretical basis for the application of thermoelectric energy converters and thermoelectric refrigeration. Today, with the increasingly serious environmental pollution and energy crisis, it is of great practical significance to research new thermoelectric materials.

The application of thermoelectric materials does not require the use of transmission parts, and there is no noise and waste during operation. Like the application of solar energy, wind energy, water energy and other secondary energy, it does not pollute the environment, and this material has reliable performance and long service life. It is an environmentally friendly material with a broad application prospect. Now there is a mobile refrigerator on the market, which is suitable for freezing drinks and food preservation during travel. In addition to being easy to carry, this refrigerator does not use a compressor and has no noise. In cold weather, it can also be turned into an insulator. The core technology behind this refrigerator is the thermoelectric materials inside.
